Makings of a Good Driver

   Posted by: admin   in Training

With great power comes great responsibility. Driving incorporates power and you have to be extremely careful and adhere to all the guidelines and rules. Follow a few simple rules and become a great driver for your family, friends and ultimately for yourself.

So what are the makings of a good driver?

Driving carefully. Remember careful doesn’t mean over cautious. If you are too slow you will be in the way. Follow the stipulated speed limits and take note of the yellow or orange advisory signs.

• Always be aware and don’t get distracted easily. If you get a call on your mobile phone don’t answer it while driving. If it’s urgent, pull over in a safe place, complete the call and then start driving again. Never talk on the phone while driving. New drivers on a P1 licence can’t even use a hands free device.

• Everyone loves listening to music while driving. Keep the volume down so you know what’s happening outside. If you need to change the radio channel do it carefully or get a remote control for the audio system. You now have cars that have the controls of the music system on the steering wheel which is a good safety measure.

• Always have your paper work updated. Make sure your licence does not expire; your car has third party insurance as a minimum. Also make sure you have the cars’ manual in case of emergencies.

• Knowing how to change a flat is something that everyone should know. Always have a tool kit, jack and a legal, inflated spare tyre in the boot.

• Being a good driver means taking care of your passengers as well. Make sure all the passengers in the car have their seat belt on. It is as important as you wearing one. If there is a baby in the car drive slowly and have a car seat for infants.

• Know how you car works. A good driver knows how to operate the minor parts of their car. Treat your car well, wash it regularly, change the oil when needed, drive it smoothly and it will be good to you!

You’ll learn all this and more when you take driving lessons. For more information on driving lessons and basics of driving visit www.roadworks.net.au for all the information you need on driving lessons and becoming a safe driver.
